Exploring Vancouver Markets is an ideal way to spend a weekend evening. The markets are fun for all, offering everything from food trucks and live music to shopping and games for the kids. They’re also a great way to snag one-of-a-kind gifts, sample different foods, and join in the community celebrations. Here are three markets to visit.
On Friday evenings, Lower Lonsdale’s The Shipyards District transforms into a vibrant night market, with a focus on local menus and live music. Each week, 40+ food trucks and food vendors pepper the landscape while a craft beer garden (19+) quenches the thirst. You’ll find jewelry, clothing, kids wear, soaps, organic meats, honey, plants, chocolate, and other handmade products in the artisan market, inside The Pipe Shop building. Bonus: you can bring four-legged friends, so long as they’re on a leash.
Location: 138 Victory Ship Way at Shipbuilders’ Square, North Vancouver
Date: May 3-September 27, 2019
Time: Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This international draw—the largest night market in North America—showcases flavours from around the world, so bring your appetite. The best part? You can eat a lot for cheap, as food and products are offered at “street” prices. The market also features live entertainment, cultural performances, carnival games, and plenty of merchandise, so be prepared to stay a few hours so that you have time to take it all in.
Location: Next to the Bridgeport sky train station at 8351 River Road, Richmond
Date: May 10-October 14, 2019
Time: Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday and holiday Mondays from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Insider Tip: Make sure to bring Canadian cash, as most vendors accept cash only
You don’t have to wait for summer to take in what the Granville Island Market has to offer. This year-round draw is home to restaurants, galleries, and artist studios. Peruse the wares or shop like a chef among the market stalls (you can opt for guided tours that point out market must haves). There’s a Kids Market for the little ones, energetic live music, and plenty of places to whet your whistle, including Granville Island Brewing.
Location: 1669 Johnston Street, Vancouver
Date: Year round
Time: Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily (closed Mondays in January and during select holidays)
